At what time can we check-in and out? Check In from 1 p.m. Check Out is 11.00 a.m. Is the price per room/apartment or per person? All rates are per room. Is breakfast included in the price and what type of breakfast? Yes, reinforced breakfast served a la carte. You have the choice of having breakfast expanded and a la carte served in the non smoking breakfast room, on the panoramic terrace overlooking the whole coastline, in the palm-terrace pavilion or in your room. Can we settle the bill on arrival? Yes. Which languages are spoken at the reception? English, Italian, German, French, Spanish, Dutch and Arabic. How many floors are there in the building and do you have an elevator (lift) in the building? 3 floors connected by panoramic lift. Are there particularly private, romantic rooms? Breakfast at Villa Schuler is included in the room-rates. It is served "à la carte" in the non-smoking breakfast room, on the panoramic terrace, in the palm-terrace pavilion or in your room. Our constant effort is to keep our customers satisfied. A good Bed & Breakfast has to offer a good quality breakfast and we continually try to improve our services to meet the expectations of our international clients on holiday here in Taormina. The first service of the morning starting the day of our clients is a breakfast served "à la carte" at the table. You can choose between the non-smoking breakfast room, the panoramic terrace and the palm-terrace pavilion. Or to have breakfast served in your room. The attached breakfast-menu offers a large choice of quality products of market-leading companies allowing to choose freely between varieties of always-available alternatives. We gave priority to including the largest possible choice of natural foods, local products, regional specialities and fresh food without preservatives. Some organically grown products as well. Our service guarantees reliable standards, constant availability, freshness and hygiene. The atmosphere wants to be relaxed and friendly. From 07.30 to 10.00 a.m. Clients wishing to have breakfast served earlier than 7.30 can order on the previous evening from the same menu and for whichever time. After 10.00 you can still order a smaller continental breakfast. So we serve breakfast from midnight to midday. Our breakfast is included in the room rates. On request we serve breakfast also in your room, without supplement. La colazione a Villa Schuler è inclusa nel prezzo camera e viene servita "à la carte" in sala, nel padiglione, sulla terrazza panoramica o in camera. Il ns. impegno è la costante ricerca della soddisfazione dei nostri ospiti. Un buon Hotel con servizio Bed & Breakfast deve proporre una buona prima colazione di qualità ed il ns. sforzo è di venire incontro alle attese della ns. clientela internazionale in vacanza a Taormina. Il primo servizio del mattino che apre la giornata del ns. cliente è una colazione servita al tavolo "à la carte". I nostri ospiti possono scegliere fra la sala colazione, la terrazza delle palme ed il padiglione posto sulla medesima terrazza panoramica. Oppure su richiesta anche nel nostro parco o nella nostra panoramicissima Rooftop Lounge&Terrace. Oppure optare per il servizio in camera. Il nostro menu della colazione offre un'ampia scelta di prodotti di qualità di aziende leader e la possibilità di combinare a piacere fra una varietà di alimenti tutti sempre disponibili. HOW TO GET THERE PLANE: nearest airports are Catania (CTA) 37 miles or Palermo (PMO) 160 miles. From Catania airport the bus operator "Etna Trasporti" connects nearly each hour to Taorminas bus terminal (70 minutes drive) between 7 a.m. and 9.45 pm. On request we can arrange a 50 minutes taxi-transfer to our hotel. TRAIN: all major trains from northern Italy, starting in Milan or Rome with destination Syracuse or Agrigento, stop at TAORMINA-GIARDINI. From here you will find taxis to the town centre and directly to our hotel (2,5 miles). CAR: DRIVING INSTRUCTIONS shortest way (recommended): Coming from motorway A 18, Catania-Messina, exit at TAORMINA. After having paid the toll follow the sign "Taormina" uphill for about 2 km/1,25 miles. At the multi-storey parking "Lumbi" cross the roundabout and turn semi-right entering the tunnel "Monte Tauro/Porta Catania" (1.093 meters/3.586 ft). Exiting at Taormina's south end, drive uphill around the multi-storey parking "Porta Catania" till you reach a little square, Piazza Sant'Antonio. In front of you stands the medieval city-portal "Porta Catania" and, before it, the post-office to its right. Just before the post-office you find white hotel signs. Follow them taking the narrow one-way road downhill to the right from the post office and follow it for about 1/4 mile till the road opens on to a kind of place lined with trees. Continue downhill to the right entering the one-way "Via Roma" (again white hotel signs). From there it's just another 1/4 mile on the panoramic "Via Roma" till you find the Hotel Villa Schuler on the left side. In front of the hotel there is our private parking (yellow lines on your left). If you have booked a garage place we will park the car for you, as soon as you have checked in. or through the city: Coming from motorway A 18, Catania-Messina, exit at TAORMINA. Once in front of the city-portal "Porta Messina" (beginning of the pedestrian main street "Corso Umberto"), turn right uphill direction Castelmola and follow the "Via Circonvallazione", the circular road around the historic center of Taormina. After about 1/2 mile you will see on your left side the castellated medieval Palazzo Badia Vecchia, directly behind it take the narrow road down to your left. After about another 1/2 mile you will reach a little square, Piazza Sant'Antonio. Straight on you will see the small church "Chiesa S. Francesco di Paola", before which please turn left and then immediately to the right (see white hotel signs), taking the one-way road downhill and follow it for about 1/4 mile till the road opens on to a kind of place lined with trees. Continue downhill to the right entering the one-way "Via Roma" (again white hotel signs). From there it's just another 1/4 mile on the panoramic "Via Roma" till you find the Hotel Villa Schuler on the left side. The limited number of outdoor parking areas (white lines) are for residents only. Few hotels have garages. Some hotels have a limited number of outdoor parkings (yellow lines) for which they pay a local tax and which their clients can use free of charge. PARKING AT THE HOTEL VILLA SCHULER AND IN THE TOWN CENTER: 1 ) HOTEL GARAGE: If you prefer guaranteed parking you can reserve a parking space in our hotel garage, open from 06.00 to 22.00 with valet parking, for a charge of 15,00 Euro per day. Vans, Jeeps and SUVs need to reserve 2 spaces. Garage reservations can be cancelled free of charge until one day before. 2 ) PARKING FOR HOTEL-GUESTS: Two special parking spaces for our hotel-guests (yellow lines). Free of charge but cannot be reserved: first comes first served. Car keys must be handed over at reception. No hotel-liability on this 2 parkings on rented public soil. Other alternatives are: 3 ) GARAGE "CALIFORNIA": authorised garage and rent a car 200 mts/220 yards from our hotel for a charge of Euro 16,00-18,00, depending on the size of the car. The rate includes* the shuttle-service "Linea Porta Messina" (orange buses) from the parking lot to the town entrance "Porta Messina" city archway and vice versa. A second bus line, the "Linea Circolare Rossa" (also orange buses) makes the whole circular trip around the town, stopping directly in front of our Hotel for 0,50 Euro*. 5) "PORTA CATANIA" CAR PARK: Just before the town entrance, south side, arriving from 2 directions: - Coming from the A18 (Catania-Messina) motorway, exit at "Taormina" and drive uphill 2 km/1,5 miles to reach the "Lumbi" car park and take the tunnel from there which connects the two multi-storey car parks. - Alternatively, arriving from Giardini-Naxos follow the signs for the Hospital (Ospedale), then continue uphill for 1,6 km/1 mile (the street is currently closed for road works). COME ARRIVARE IN AEREO: Gli aeroporti più vicini a Taormina sono l'aeroporto Catania "Fontanarossa" (CTA) a 64 Km e l'aeroporto di Palermo "Falcone e Borsellino" (PMO) a 258 Km. Ambedue sono serviti da compagnie di bandiera e compagnie low cost: Alitalia, Air Berlin, Air France, Air Italy, Air Malta, Air One, Air Panarea, Blu Express, British Airways, Brussels Airlines, Deedalus, Delta, EasyJet, Edelweiss Air, Eurofly, Finnair, Helvetic, ItAli airlines, Jetairfly, KLM, LM Livingstone, Lufthansa, Meridiana, Myair, SKY Europe, Volareweb e Wind Jet. Dall'aeroporto di Catania esiste un collegamento diretto in autobus della ditta Etnatrasporti con partenze quasi ogni ora per il Bus Terminal di Taormina. Il tragitto è coperto in 70 Minuti. Il Bus Terminal di Taormina dista poi ca. 10 minuti a piedi dal nostro albergo. Esiste anche un servizio taxi dal Bus Terminal. Su richiesta organizziamo un servizio taxi NCC dall'aeroporto CTA direttamente al ns. albergo. IN TRENO: Tutti i treni da Milano o Roma per Siracusa od Agrigento fermano alla stazione di Taormina-Giardini, che si trova a livello del mare. Dalla stazione ferroviaria si può raggiungere il Bus Terminal di Taormina con servizio autobus oppure prendendo un taxi direttamente per l'albergo. IN AUTO precorso più breve (consigliato): Autostrada A 18 Messina-Catania: uscita Taormina. Proseguire in salita verso Taormina (2 km), fino al parcheggio a silos "LUMBI". Subito dopo l'ingresso del parcheggio (rotonda) svoltate a destra entrando nel tunnel "Monte Tauro/Porta Catania" (1.093 m) che porta direttamente al lato sud di Taormina. Usciti dal tunnel proseguite in salita per circa 200 m. passando intorno al parcheggio a silos "Porta Catania" fino a raggiungere la Piazzetta S.Antonio, antistante l'arco medievale di "Porta Catania". Davanti l'arco noterete sulla destra l'ufficio postale, davanti al quale (segnaletica alberghiera) svoltate a destra e proseguire in discesa per 200 metri fino a raggiungere la "Via Roma", la panoramica lato mare. Dopo ca. 800 m raggiungerete la Piazzetta Bastione antistante l'hotel "Villa Schuler". Sulla piazzetta con parcheggio residenti, sul lato sinistro ci sono 2 parcheggi "Riservato Hotel" (strisce gialle). In caso di prenotazione di posto garage, parcheggeremo noi l'auto subito dopo il vostro check-in. Attraverso la città: Autostrada A 18 Messina-Catania: uscita Taormina. Proseguire in salita verso Taormina per 2 km. Arrivati al parcheggio a silos "Lumbi", alla rotonda prima della galleria "Monte Tauro/Porta Catania" svoltare a sinistra direzione "centro" e proseguite in salita per altri 400 m fino all"ingresso della città, dove noterete i primi cartelli della segnaletica alberghiera. Giunti davanti all'arco di "Porta Messina" girare a destra in salita e proseguire sulla "Via Circonvallazione" per ca. 400 m. Sul lato sinistro noterete un edificio medievale in pietra chiamato "Palazzo Badia Vecchia". Svoltare a sinistra in discesa in direzione "centro" e proseguire per circa 400 m. fino a raggiungere la Piazzetta S.Antonio. Di fronte a voi noterete la piccola chiesa di S.Francesco di Paola. Girare a sinistra ed immediatamente dopo a destra (segnaletica alberghiera). Proseguire in discesa per 200 metri fino a raggiungere la "Via Roma", la panoramica lato mare. Dopo ca. 800 m raggiungerete la Piazzetta Bastione antistante l'hotel "Villa Schuler". Il prezzo include il pulmino che fa spola dal parcheggio all'entrata della città " Linea Porta Messina" e viceversa (pulmino arancione). Una seconda linea, la "Linea Circolare Rossa" (pulmino anch'esso di color arancione), effettua l'intero percorso circolare attorno alla città, fermandosi anche direttamente di fronte al nostro albergo. Prezzo 0,50 Euro*. 5) IL PARCHEGGIO "PORTA CATANIA": situato in prossimità dell'entrata sud di Taormina, ci si può arrivare da due direzioni: - arrivando dall'autostrada A18 (Catania-Messina), uscire dallo svincolo "Taormina" e guidare in salita per 2 Km fino a raggiungere il parcheggio "Lumbi". Qui prendere il tunnel che collega i due parcheggi a silos. - arrivando da Giardini-Naxos, seguire la segnaletica "Ospedale Sirina" e continuare guidando in salita per 1,6 Km (attualmente la strada è chiusa per lavori). Mount Etna, the 3,329-metre / 10,922-feet volcano in Sicily erupted in the evening of January 12, 2011 for around four hours, providing an amazing scenery. On the evening of 11th January 2011 an increase in volcanic tremor was recorded at the summit of the volcano. The recorded seismic activity reached a peak at 7 a.m. on 12th January when the source moved from north of NE crater to the SE crater. The eruption started with strombolian explosive activity at SE crater at around 9.p.m. Lava overflowed the eastern rim of SE crater and fed a flow that moved toward the western wall of the Valle del Bove (Valley of the oxen), an ancient huge uninhabited depression on the NE side of the volcano. The Sicilian communities near the volcano were not threatened by this latest fascinating eruption. Known as 'Jebel Utlamat' in Arabic - meaning 'mountain of fire - Etna's name is thought to originate from the Phoenician word 'attuna', meaning 'furnace'. Etna is Europe's most active volcano and has been active for around half a million years. Eruptions have rarely threatened the inhabited areas in the volcano's vicinity. Most eruptions take place on the summit area around its 4 crates with spectacular lava streams flowing usually inside the large uninhabited depression of the "Valle del Bove", having an extension from west to east of 7 km / 4,4 miles and a north-south width of roughly 5.5 km / 3,5 miles. Best place to watch the fascinating eruptions of Mount Etna is the town of Taormina, nestled on a hill at 220 meters / 722 feet above the sea level and at a safe linear distance of approx.28 Km / 17,4 miles from the top craters of the Sicilian volcano. L'Etna 3,329 m. ha ripreso la sua attività la sera del 12.01.2011 per circa 4 ore. Una intensa attività esplosiva di tipo stromboliana con getti di lava e cenere incandescente sono stati liberati dal "pit crater" , una depressione sul fianco orientale del cono del cratere di sud-est. La colata incandescente è poi ricaduta nella Valle del Bove, a 1.630 metri sul livello del mare, dopo aver percorso complessivamente circa 4.500 metri dalla bocca eruttiva. La Valle del Bove è una antica e profonda depressione disabitata, desertica e ricoperta da colate laviche recenti (1991-'93 e seguenti) ed occupa una superficie di circa 37 km². Il recinto craterico all'interno del quale si trova la valle si sviluppa per un perimetro di circa 18 chilometri e presenta a nord e a sud pareti dall'altezza variabile tra i 400 e i 1.000 metri. Nessun pericolo quindi per i centri abitati. La spettacolare eruzione è durata solo circa 4 ore. Il posto ideale per osservare l'attività vulcanica dell'Etna è sicuramente Taormina che si trova in linea d'aria a 28 Km di distanza dalla zona sommitale del vulcano siciliano. ITALY 2005 A ban on smoking in all public places such as hotels, bars, restaurants, discotheques and offices went into effect on 10 January 2005 as Italy joined a growing number of European countries imposing stricter restrictions on smokers. 10 January 2005. (Globalink news) Italy imposed a ban on smoking in all enclosed public places including bars and restaurants from midnight on 10 January 2005. Businesses face a fine of up to 2,000 euros if they fail to ensure their customers do not smoke, while smokers themselves could face a 275 euro (360 dollars) for repeatedly ignoring the new rules. The ban has not been welcomed by all, with some bar owners and smokers saying they will ignore the ban on the grounds that cigarettes and smoking are an integral part of Italian bar and cafe culture. The new rules allow smoking in special sealed-off areas fitted with smoke extractors; however many bar owners say fitting the automatic doors and forced ventilation systems required by law is too expensive. At the moment the Hotel Villa Schuler has no smoking area of this kind, smoking is therefore only allowed in all the outdoor areas of our hotel: the palm terrace, the sun-roof and the garden.

Il Ministero della Salute, con la Circolare 17 dicembre 2004, ha provveduto ad emanare alcune indicazioni interpretative ed attuative relativamente alla prossima entrata in vigore del divieto di fumo: CAMPO DI APPLICAZIONE - Il divieto di fumo riguarda tutti i locali chiusi pubblici e privati aperti ad utenti o al pubblico. Il Ministero ricomprende, in via esemplificativa e non esaustiva, tra i locali chiusi privati aperti ad utenti o al pubblico: "oltre ai bar e ristoranti, i circoli privati e tutti i locali di intrattenimento, come le discoteche, e quelli ad essi assimilati, come le palestre, le sale corse, le sale gioco, le sale video games, le sale Bingo, i cinema multisala, i teatri. Il divieto di fumo trova applicazione anche nei luoghi di lavoro privati, che siano aperti al pubblico o ad utenti. Secondo il Ministero, "utenti" dei luoghi di lavoro privati devono essere considerati anche gli stessi lavoratori che prestano in tali locali la loro attività lavorativa. OBBLIGHI DEI SOGGETTI RESPONSABILI DELLA STRUTTURA ALBERGHIERA - Secondo il Ministero, sul gestore dell'esercizio pubblico, ovvero sul dipendente o collaboratore da lui formalmente incaricato, ricadono i seguenti obblighi: - richiamare formalmente i trasgressori all'osservanza del divieto di fumare; - segnalare, in caso di ottemperanza al richiamo, il comportamento dei trasgressori, ai pubblici ufficiali e agenti ai quali competono le contestazioni della violazione del divieto e la conseguente redazione del verbale di contravvenzione. In caso di violazione ai suddetti obblighi, nonché in caso di mancata esposizione dei cartelli, al gestore dell?esercizio pubblico è applicabile la sanzione amministrativa da 200 a 2000 euro (dal 1.1.2005, con l'entrata in vigore della legge finanziaria 2005, la sanzione aumenterà: da 220 a 2200 euro). THE VILLA SCHULER IS A REAL WINNER Taormina is on what could be referred to as the Amalfi coast of Sicily and, although the town is lovely and rich with history, it is very touristy. This of course means that rates are on the high side but, happily, the Villa Schuler is affordable. The villa was converted from a private residence to a hotel by the Schuler family over a century ago and now grandson Gerardo is at the helm. The pink façade faces out to the Via Roma and has a large raised terrace with palms and potted flowers. A continental or full brekfast is served either here or in the gazebo where you can enjoy views emcompassing the coastline and the peak of the Etna volcano. The hotel offers standard bedrooms and junior suites. All the rooms have air conditioning, satellite TVs, safes, and terraces or balcony often with a sea views. Behind the building is the hotel?s botanical garden filled with a profusion of jasmine, bougainvillea, and geraniums. Located in the garden is a secluded two bathroom suite. The garden opens onto the pedestrian main street of town and it is just a short walk to the cable car that takes you down to the beaches, or you can take the hotel shuttle services. OLD, ELEGANT CHARM Late in the 19th century, Sg. Schuler's great-grandfather travelled by coach from Germany and built his house high above the Ionian Sea. He built on a grand scale and he chose the site well - the views of the Bay of Naxos and Mount Etna are gorgeous. When he died in 1905, Great Grandma decided to let out some rooms; the villa has been a hotel ever since. Though restored and brought up to date, it still has an old, elegant charm and a relaxed peaceful atmosphere. Lavish organic brakfasts are served in the low-energy chandelier'd breakfast room or out on the terrace. Bedrooms vary; some have beautifully tield floors, antique furniture and stone balconies, while the more modern top-floor suites have beamed ceilings and large terraces. All come with organic linen, jacuzzi showers heated by solar panels, heating from biomass and views out to sea - or over the vast, subtropical garden scented with jasmine. What has been recreated is a wonderfully handsome, up-to-date hotel with the charm and elegance of its past. It is cool, quiet, impeccably run, with tiled floors, antique furniture and stone balconies on one level and more modern rooms with large terraces at the top. In fact, they are as modern as can be, with WIFI, jacuzzis, and most of the gadgets you could possibly need. In spite of the part-modernisation, Villa Schuler can claim to be one of the greenest hotels in Italy. Gerhard seems to have thought of everything, so the following may seem like litany of ecological achievement. But it is worth spelling out, even if briefly: They have used traditional building methods and natural materials. The ventilation 'system' cunningly uses the up-drafts from the sea. Toxic materials, blithely accepted by most, have been rigorously excluded - even electromagnetic 'smog'. Waste, of course, is seperated and recycled to an impressive degree. The sun heats the water, local farmers grow much of the food, natural fertilisers nourish the garden, ecological cleaners are aplied to the walls and floors, clever devices will alarm and protect you in case of fire, fossil-fuels are treated with respect and water conserved. Materials are natural (cotton towels, of course) disposables are reduced to a minimum, and all discarded furniture and equipment is donated to charity.
