Events 2021 Taormina&Sicily
Events 2021
Dear guests and friends of Hotel Villa Schuler. In previous years, we have always tried to help our guests and anyone who wanted to come to Taormina to plan their vacations by providing them with a comprehensive calendar of events.
In 2020, virtually all events were canceled or postponed due to the pandemic. And, unfortunately some of them are again postponed to 2022. But we are happy to at least be able to announce quite a lot of events for the 2021 season for Taormina and surroundings. Most of them take place at open air locations, the wonderful Teatro Antico of Taormina, one of the most beautiful open air locations of Italy the charming roman theatre Odeon of Taormina, the Anfiteatro Falcone Borsellino of Zafferana Etnea and other locations in the region.
We will continue to look for new events and keep you updated here on our Hotel Villa Schuler events page. It’s worth checking back every once in a while to see if we’ve found something new.

Festival Lirico dei Teatri di Pietra – Maria de Buenos Aires, opera by Astor Piazzolla.
The only tango opera he composed, Maria de Buenos Aires represents the essence of the great musician’s production. Operita tango, as he himself defines it, inspired by the singer Milva, is about Maria, a prostitute in the city of Buenos Aires, who is kidnapped by the tango and, finally, killed. The plot is particularly surreal and includes a payador, an elf, some puppets under his control, and psychoanalysts, who move on stage to the rhythm of tango. The cast includes the participation of Cecilia Suarez Paz, daughter of the historic violinist of Piazzolla. The Orchestra Filarmonica della Calabria will be conducted by Filippo Arlia.

Mario Giordano – Reading with the bestselling author of the detective stories about Auntie Poldi (Tante Poldi). Mario Giordano, born in Munich in 1963, has sicilian roots and is one of the most versatile German entertainment authors. With his “Tante Poldi” detective stories, he has regularly been on the bestseller lists in Germany and the USA. The author will read the first time from his latest – still unpublished – novel, “Terra di Sicilia – Die Rueckkehr des Patriarchen,” which will be published by Goldmann in spring 2022. The reading will be in German! The novel describes the story of Barnaba Carbonaro, who grows up in an archaic Sicily of the late 19th century, his head full of dreams of wealth and a family dynasty.
