68th Taormina Filmfest – Opening Gala Legendary U.S. director, screenwriter and producer Francis Ford Coppola will open the 68th Taormina Film Fest with “The Godfather”. The great director will present the restored version of his film, which was released worldwide this year by Paramount Pictures to celebrate its 50th anniversary.

68th Edition of the Taormina Filmfest The historic event dedicated to the seventh art will celebrate its 68th anniversary this year. The directors of the festival are Alessandra De Luca, Federico Pontiggia and Francesco Alò. The common thread of this year’s festival will be comedy, with the celebration of Vittorio Gassman and Ugo Tognazzi in the centenary year of their birth, in the presence of their children Paola Gassman and Gian Marco Tognazzi. A tribute to the Sicilian comedic actor Angelo Musco is also planned, with the screening of a film dedicated to him, after the restoration by the Cineteca Nazionale. One of the highlights of the Taormina Film Fest 2022 will be the screening at the Teatro Antico of the documentary “Ennio”, which pays tribute to the legendary composer Ennio Morricone, retracing his life and works, with the skilful direction of the Oscar winner Giuseppe Tornatore, expected in Sicily for the occasion. Singer Noemi, screenwriter Marco Borromei, actor Massimiliano Gallo, and director and screenwriter Aleem Khan will be the members of the jury of the International Competition of the 68th edition of the Taormina Film Fest, chaired by Cristina Comencini, director, writer, screenwriter, playwright, who was nominated for an Oscar in 2006 for “The Beast in the Heart.”

68th Taormina Filmfest – Screening of La mia ombra è tua film by Eugenio Cappuccio, after the homonymous novel by Edoardo Nesi. This is a love story, which began forty years ago and never ended. It is also the story of a journey through Italy undertaken by a strange couple aboard an old jeep: Emiliano, a 25-year-old who has just graduated with honors degrees in Ancient Literature, and Vittorio Vezzosi, a gruff 60-year-old writer who has been leading a hermit’s life for years after the publication of his only book, a planetary success. They head for a the fair of Milan, where the writer will hold his first speech after 20 years of silence. Here they meet Milena, the writer’s lost love, and a crowd
eager to hear Vezzosi.

A feature film comprised of 7 short stories whose common denominator is the representation of female protagonists. Each of these very different women face a particular challenge in their life with extreme determination and courage that makes them stronger and more self-aware. Some of these inspirational and empowering stories, which take place all over the world, are inspired by true events while others are narrative fiction.

68th Taormina Filmfest. Screening of Minions 2, co-directed by Kyle Balda and Brad Ableson. Minions 2 is the sequel to the animated film starring the funny yellow characters from Cattivissmo Me. The film explores the origins of Felonius Gru (original voice of Steve Carell, Italian voice of Max Giusti) and how he became villainous, setting the story in the heart of the 1970s.

68th Taormina Filmfest – Screening of Zita Sempri short film in memory of Franco Battiato. Grey’s Anatomy star Stefania Spampinato makes her directorial debut with Zita Sempri. Through letters between mother and daughter, the female experience is taken apart across generations. La Voce del Patrone, documentary about the life of Franco Battiato by Marco Spagnoli. Maestro Franco Battiato is celebrated with elegance and empathy in this documentary featuring Marco Castoldi aka Morgan, Mara Maionchi, Nanni Moretti, Paolo Buonvino, Carmen Consoli, Eugenio Finardi, Stefano Senardi and Vincenzo Mollica.

68th Taormina Filmfest – Closing Gala with among others the screening of the documentary Ennio by Giuseppe Tornatore, a documentary focusing on the great maestro Ennio Morricone, the Italian composer, who passed away on July 6, 2020. He was most known by his compositions for cinema, from spaghetti westerns to colossal films as, “Once Upon a Time in America (1984)”. The film chronicles the proponent of more than 500 soundtracks – including some of Tornatore’s own films – and honored in 2007 with a lifetime achievement Oscar. Outlining the portrait are several personalities of cinema, who had the pleasure of working with him, such as Bernardo Bertolucci, Vittorio Taviani, Nicola Piovani and Carlo Verdone, to overseas colleagues, such as Clint Eastwood, Hans Zimmer, Oliver Stone, Quentin Tarantino and Bruce Springsteen.
