70th Taormina Film Fest 2024

July 12 to 19, 2024  — Teatro Antico, Palazzo Congressi and other locations in Taormina

The Taormina Film Festival celebrates it‘s 70th anniversary this year. It is one of the longest-running and most prestigious film festivals internationally. Over the years, the festival has attracted internationally renowned directors, actors and actresses. Some of the most notable names to attend the festival include legends such as Marlene Dietrich, Elizabeth Taylor, Charlton Heston, Audrey Hepburn, and Richard Burton. More recent attendees have included stars like Tom Cruise, Robert De Niro, Colin Firth, Monica Bellucci, John Malkovich, and Richard Gere.

After the world premiere of Francisco Saia’s The Thief of Falling Stars, an international Sicilian film with a marked fantasy accent, Costanza Quatriglio’s new work The Secret Drawer will open the afternoon screenings. After its triumphant premiere at the Berlin Film Festival, Taormina Film Festival viewers will be able to discover a film that has a strong Taormina component (the Super8s shot by renowned journalist and writer Giuseppe Quatriglio at Isola Bella and the Teatro Antico).

The afternoon programming will continue with an exceptional event: in collaboration with Vittoria Alliata di Villafranca’s Panaria Film and the Cineteca di Bologna, both Vulcano and Volcano, the two versions (different from each other) in Italian and English (for the U.S. market) of William Dieterle’s legendary film starring Anna Magnani, will be shown on film. The American version of the film will be presented for the first time in Sicily, after the legendary screening that Martin Scorsese organized in New York in honor of Francesco Alliata.
